Changing soon from ubuntu 10.10 to mint 12 - any special considerations?

Have been trying out mint 12 rc plus all updates for a while now in virtualbox. Have decided mint 12 will be the replacement soon for my ubuntu 10.10. Are there any special considerations or precautions to take into account, in order to ensure everything from my old system will still work? I use a separate /home for all personal data in ubuntu and have had no problems installing new ubuntu versions in the past. But I wonder about any problems I might have changing the main system to mint. Thanks.

Maybe I should add, that having only run mint 12 in a virtual environment, I'm not necessarily seeing potential problems, due to virtualbox's use of virtualized hardware and its own drivers. I believe the ubuntu and mint repos for the most part have the same programs. I use the proprietary nvidia driver on my present system.

It should be ok to do a clean install but take the time to read any release notes from the Mint devs.

Don't forget you will also find limited support directly from Linux Mint community since it is a smaller community.

I upgraded from Ubuntu 10.10 t0 Mint 11 on my Acer netbook and the process was painless. They gave you an option to upgrade as an alternative to a clean install so they left your home file in place. It saved a lot of restoring data from backup though, obviously, you still need to backup.

I was going to do the same with my regular computer but ran into problems when trying to run Mint 12 from a usb stick - I just got a blank screen.(see this thread). I got the same result trying to run from a DVD.
