Cannot enable Canon LBP2900 printer in Mint 14

I finally managed to install my Samsung ML2168 printer on my laptop where I use Peppermint but despite hours of trying I cannnot get my Canon LBP2900 to work on my PC with Mint 14. I am a newby and not technical but have tried to implement the various suggestions on this site and others. I cannot understand why it is so complicated to get a printer to work with LinuxMint when the OS is so easy to use. I'd be very grateful for any definitive solution.

Are you trying to configure it through System Settings, Printing? What happens when you try to Add a printer? Take a look at the site below at the Mint forums which are discussing the Canon printer and see what their suggestions are:

Dear Yancek. Thank you for your replay and apologies for the delay in getting back. I have tried umpteen ways found in various places. When I did Add a Printer the printer was recognised so I followed the instructions but when I finally tried to print a test page nothing happened. Having read that I should also try just to try and print a doc but this did not work either. One of the problems is that anything that involves using code throws me because I have only recently joined the linux cohort and do not understand the language (yet). Another problem is that links often lead to web pages that do not exist or are not recognised. I have now downloaded a guide to Linux in the hope that I can find out how to use the terminal. BTW: The OS is Mint 16 Cinnamon not Mint 14.

Found another page in help.ubuntu.com/community where installing the 2.6 driver in Ubuntu 13.10 was explained but got stuck when a warning appeared in
sudo update-rc.d ccpd defaults
update-rc.d:warning /etc/init.d/ccpd missing LSB information
update-rc.d: see <http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts>
However, when I went to the site I did not find the scripts
