Can I have an encrypted HD and a non-encrypted HD in the same computer?

I have a desktop computer with two hard drives, call them HD-A and HD-B. I would like to copy everything I want to keep to HD-B, then remove HD-B, then re-format and install Mint 18 on HD-A, then check that everything is working OK, and then some time later put HD-B back into the computer.

I want to take the option of encrypting HD-A.

But if I do this, will Mint also be able to work with the unencrypted HD-B?

Thanks.
