[Solved] Monitor no longer turning off

Greetings,

One thing I never got around to was understanding was how Cinnamon controls the monitor. Since I installed 19.2 last year, the monitor would turn itself off after approx 30 minutes (I've never timed it) of inactivity which suits me as I usually leave the pc on when I go to work. However, after updating the other day, I've noticed the monitor no longer turns itself off after x amount of inactivity.

I've looked through all the settings to see where this is controlled and cannot find where this is done. I have a feeling it may be in a config file somewhere which was changed by one of the recent updates.

Does it power off or just go dark?

Normally, I'd look in settings for something like "power management" or "display." Depending on which screensaver you are using, the screensaver often has some display power management settings.

I feel a little sheepish now that I've found out what the cause was.

Because the settings window does not open full screen I didn't think to scroll down and there is the power management setting:

As you can see I had it set to 30 minutes (which appears to be how it was working in the past). I then decided to set it to 5 minutes and see what happens. When I returned to my PC the screen was off as expected.

Without knowing the inner workings of Cinnamon, it appears that the screen off function was disabled but this was not reflected in the settings window. It looks like making a change has re-written to where ever this setting is stored and I have this functionality back.
