Thanks, it is really good looking! I will probably use it for my Arch system.

I find it interesting that you use the 24 hr clock, given people in the US seem to prefer just using AM and PM.

Anyway, my screenshot is attached. It's very simple, as I like it. I just use keyboard shortcuts for applications that I use regularly.

The first screen shot looks awesome. I will try to imitate that when I get home.

I also use the 24hr format and I am in the US as well. It just feels more natural I guess. Then again I also prefer the metric system over the retarded imperial measurement system that is still stubbornly used here.

Not your typical 'murrican' I guess. :p

H_TeXMeX_H 06-06-2011 12:33 PM

I use the 12 hour format even tho I'm in Europe now. I don't think I'll ever get used to 24 hour military time. Either way, when speaking most people use 12 hour format even here, so I don't see the point.

I always use 24 hour time so there is no question of what time I want someone to be somewhere. :)

Can I ask what people are using to take their screenshots? Something in the "repository" or something from slackbuilds? Or perhaps something you just use from source?

Daedra! Really digging that clean and simple Slackware background in the first snapshot... mind sharing that? Also, how do you get conky to show like that, where it looks like it's raised off of the wallpaper?

Conky isn't actually raised at all, its the transparent cube in compiz that makes it look like that. If you are referring to the transparent background that I use for conky you need lua support built into conky and them you can just just add a background using a lua script.

Thanks for the links, much appreciated! As for that conky instance in the first screenshot, it looks very similar to the KDE windows you have on the desktop where conky remains transparent but has a frosted transparent look. That's done with a background using lua?

Daedra 07-01-2011 06:00 PM

Correct. It's a lua script that simply draws a background around your conky config. the script itself is separate from conky, you just add a line into your .conkyrc to "link" it in. Let me know if your interested and I can post the lua script and the lua-hook line to load into your conky config.

Yes, please do!

Took this a little earlier today, I just reinstalled about two days ago, in an effort to create a super light system, as well as just to fool around, I did a custom install of slackware, leaving out kde, xfce, and all related packages, as well as firefox, thunderbird, etc, etc. Here is a picture of my pure fluxbox slackware, with urxvt, sonata, and emacs! (as you can see, I'm teaching myself how to program with python)

http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/9...1107022306.png

(I did keep my old theme, at least for now.)

EDIT:
shortly after making that post, i started work on a new theme. its not finished yet (not happy with the wallpaper or the conky), but here are some previews:

Slackware looks exactly like Kubuntu,
when I say so the Slackers are mad against me.

trademark91 07-10-2011 11:58 PM

i remember you. youre the guy who posted a bunch of troll threads in the slackware forum, then got banned. the kde desktop is going to look similar regardless of which distro its in. If you dont have anything constructive to say about our desktops, and dont have a slackware desktop of your own, please leave this thread.

TigerLinux 07-11-2011 12:12 AM

I have the right to disagree with you,
Opensuse also uses KDE, but it looks a lot different from Kubuntu.
Whereas Slackware looks a lot similar to kubuntu.
Or you can say kubuntu looks like Slackware. :D either way. :)

A pic of what will be the new "MinimalX" build for 13.37.
The live version, 175MB CD/USB, seen here booting off HDD in frugal live mode is running on a Toshiba 7000CT Portege lappy 160mb RAM, 266mhz, PentiumII, 4GB HDD. I have ArchBang as a HDD install and MinimalX living inside there too:)

The second pic shows the ArchBang desktop with MinimalX folder in the filesystem (MiniN3) as a frugal live install.

XavierP 07-11-2011 10:44 AM

As has been mentioned many times on this board, there is no automatic right of free speech on these boards. If there were there would be no need for moderators. This particular sub-forum is for posting and discussion of screenshots. If your post does not match that criteria, move on.

I agree that that is a reasonable course of action.

However, I also feel that we shouldn't be forced by circumstances to do that.

Yeah the typography in that desktop is absolutely schweet.

Well thank both of you! I'm out right now, and probably won't have time to upload my configs until after work tomorrow, but I'll send you the configs as soon as I can. And Dugan, thanks for the typography compliment, I followed your font guide :)
