My setup running Fedora 22 MATE+Compiz. The dock is DockBarX, and I also have Guake installed as well. Once I get a globalmenu applet up and running it will be perfect (can anybody help me out with this on Fedora?).

Hmm, I'm trying out a new background image but now I really need to do something about my conky -- trouble is that I can end up sitting a fair way from the monitor it's on as I use this PC for watching movies and the like (on the other screen) so things have to be fairly large and I do like to keep an eye on processes.

So being a function over form guy I ought not to mind that the background photograph is covered. I am hatching a plan to use my iPad as a third screen just for conky though as that could be fun if it works well enough -- leaving the 4:3 display for the usual tasks and a photo album the rest of the time. |

draw_shades yes |
Thanks, Sector11, this is just one big, transparent, conky as smaller figures could be difficult to read. I'll have a look at shadows versus outline though, sounds like it ought to look better. The outline was because the coloring on my old background made the conky harder to read but this one is very different in color.

OK I realize that your conky was/is a wall-to-wall conky I was just trying to show how a general shadow background might help. Made my test conky bigger and aliened it to the middle-middle to show here: http://s20.postimg.org/9j7wibbk9/201...03_Scrot11.png http://s20.postimg.org/cosi8iu6h/201...09_Scrot11.png outline looks rough and shadow shows smooth but a tad harder to see I have to admit. Now adding a background shade with ARGB Code:
### ARGB can be used for real transparency http://s20.postimg.org/73634gthl/201...51_Scrot11.png http://s20.postimg.org/nr2n42ukp/201...41_Scrot11.png And while the outline is still rough but looks better with a shadow than without. I still like the shadow around the font better even with a shadow background. Linux is all about choices .. I'm just suggesting some ways to help you see your conky from the couch. :) This is of course if you have a composite manager running. If you don't but still want the shadow and have lua capabilities you can use draw-bk.lua which does a whole bunch more. OK - mandatory screenshot - BunsenLabs with one of the default conkys using draw-bk.lua and two others. http://s20.postimg.org/995fw339l/201...05_Scrot11.jpg Wallpaper is plain, no text, no art. |

Edit: Yes, sorry, I have a composite manager running -- have to have my real transparency on terminals at the least and I like it for windows decorations and occasionally to see through windows forced to the top etc.. Nice wave picture too, by the way. |
