zv5120us no sound ATI-IXP150

I cant get my sound card to work. I have followed the ALSA instructions at http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc...module=atiixp.
But the soundcard itself wont start. In Yast I get the error "The number of currently running cards doesn't match the number of configured cards in your configuration files. Try to restart soudn system?" I click yes, but the soundcard will not start. This is odd because on my very first installation of Linux I heard sound, it was choppy and not right but I heard it, then I messed with some settings and I couldn't hear it anymore. I even did a fresh install to hope I would hear it and I did not. To make sure I didnt ruin the sound card I then installed Windows XP and sound worked, so I know the card is still good. What am I doing wrong? In Yast it also says there is a soundcard to configure called the IXP150 AC'97 Audio Controller. I tried to install it but it fails. with an error that the kernel module snd-atiixp for sound support could not be loading. This can be cause by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters. I have tried so many things and I am at my wits end. Please send help.

ACPI issues

Try editing your lilo or grub menu to pass this to your kernel
pci=noacpi

There seems to be bug between the Alsa drivers and ACPI on 2.6.x kernels. I think (pure speculation) that the acpi turns on/off IRQ's in the 2.6.x kernels and for some reason is turning off the IRQ for the sound card.
