I used to own an HP ZE5155 (the processor fan broke, the store ordered a new one that never came, so finally I said f*** it and switched it for the desktop, (specs for laptop below, specs for desktop in sig)

1.8 GHz Pentium 4
40 GB Hard Drive
512 MB RAM
Some 32MB ATI Card (can't remember what exact model it was)
Some unknown 100MB Network Card

You should be able to look it up on HP's website. Anyways, I had problem after problem after problem getting Windows to run on the thing (believe it or not). I installed ATI's driver for that chip, but it still wouldn't work. I dunno, maybe the laptop got recalled or something . Anyways, decided to throw Red Hat on it (I had just downloaded Red Hat 9, this was my FIRST experience with Linux ever). I installed it and it worked without a hitch (not sure about the modem though). Then, I decided I hated Red Hat and switched to Mandrake 10.0 Community, and again, this installed without a hitch. Every single piece of hardware I used on the thing worked, and all the power features worked.

Then the fan sort of stopped spinning properly and it got kind of hot and shut itself off, and then it was all f***ed up and I returned it. (I was actually in Windows, as I had a dual-boot, when this happened with the processor....Oh well).

HP zv5270us

I have Gentoo (AMD64) running on my HP zv5270us, and it works very well. I had to patch the kernel for the alps touchpad, but it and the USB mouse work fine. I haven't figured out how to make the scrollbar on the touchpad work, but that's no biggie. GeForce 440 MX works great with nVidia's driver, i8x0/ac97 sound works well with alsa. Configuring the 1280x800 widescreen was a challenge, but now that I have the modelines I'm willing to share

I have USB / memory stick working fine. I haven't messed with the multi-media reader plugged in as a permanent pc-card.
ACPI works well, battery status, powernowk8 frequency stepping in userspace with powernowd.

The Broadcom 802.11g is reported to work with ndiswrapper on 32bit kernel systems, the winmodem is unsupported. No bother here, it's more of a portable desktop anyway

There is an issue with interrupt hogging occasionally, there was discussion of correcting this at the kernel level as it's a pretty common issue on the newer laptops I believe. I haven't checked lately, as it's not really a problem more like an annoyance. Some have solved it by disabling pci interrupt sharing, and various kernel tweaks. I haven't tried killing off pci interrupt sharing yet...

AMD 64 3400+
80Gig 5400 rpm Toshiba hdd
GeForce 440 MX / 64Meg dedicated ram
512 Mb DDR SDRam
Built in 10/100 (nForce3)
