I have an Acer Aspire 5672WLMi laptop equipped with an ATI Mobility Radeon X16000 graphics card, Gentoo (Kernel 2.6.22-r5), and X11. I've done much research on this (on this forum, as well as others) and am yet to find a solution.. Perhaps you can help.

This is very strange.. I decided to replace my Xorg.conf with the one provided on that page, (being as it's the example for my exact laptop..) and it still doesn't work!
Edit: When I tried to run "emerge -av x11-apps/ati-drivers-extra x11-drivers/ati-drivers", it failed. The build log is located here: http://rafb.net/p/FjD2p821.html

Sorry, it seems that your problem is beyond my ability.
Here are some links of Acer laptops with Linux. Maybe they can help some.
Thanks for your help, but I am in no position to buy a new laptop..
I'd appreciate any other support.
:-) The laptop dealer's advertisement was automatically added, not my proposal. My link was the "Linux on Laptop", where many acer laptops had been successfully installed.

Good luck!
Ah, apologies, I misunderstood your message. Thank you for the link! My laptop does seem to be on there with an installation of (lol) Ubuntu. I'll try and figure something out with that though.

Yes, it seems they have expired, I'll post them all again in a minute.
Well, it seems that I'm out of luck with your links.
Why don't you just post the output of
grep WW /var/log/Xorg.0.log
and
grep EE /var/log/Xorg.0.log
here, without any links?
