Question Yenta IRQ Freezes My Boot

Hi,

Just the other day I was able to log into my linux partition and I played around with my Ethernet connection. I finally found the right drivers and I was able to get online.. it was great.

I shut down my notebook and the next morning when I boot into it.. my boot into linux freezes at this point
Quote:
Starting pcmcia: Yenta IRQ list 06b8, PCI irq11
Socket status: 30000006
Yenta IRQ list 06b8, PCI irq11
Socket status: 30000006
Everything above that get's the OK sticker, but nothing happens after that string. I've search other forums, but none of them really say anything about it hanging up their boot or their system. Thanks for any help.

I had the same problem with my HP Laptop on nearly every major flavor of linux. It was my learning-linux computer. There are several slight deviations to handle the problem depending on the distro you want.

The best way to go is to visit linux laptop sites that have the step-by-step install for your laptop model. Follow those instructions.

The laptop I have is a HP ZE4560us and the current install is Debian. I had to recompile the kernel to include the power management options and exclude irq 11 in the file 'etc/pcmcia/config.opts'.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I'll probably need that later on.. for the time being I updated my distribution from Red Hat 9 to SuSE 10.0 so I'm ok for right now. Thanks.
