Xubuntu GUI not running on old Toshiba laptop
'Morning all,
Am upgrading an old PC from Fedora 1 to Xubuntu 8.04. Every time I switch on, the OS loads up, the xubuntu screen loads, the loading bar goes from left to right, the screen goes black with a flashing cursor, the cursor disappears, then the screen sits black and nothing happens. The same happens if I try to load from the live CD. I've checked the CDs and they seem fine. Loading in safe mode (indeed, installing in safe mode) has the same result.
I have tried the alternate CD, with the same result.
Am installing on a Toshiba Satellite 1800 laptop with a Pentium III processor, 132Mb RAM and 20Gb hard disk. This is more than the minimum requirements for the distro, as I understand.
When the screen goes black, the hard disk continues to spin off and on for a number of hours (I left it overnight). There is power going to the screen, but just no signal.
Any clues?
