X-Windows display on an Acer Aspire 3620 series not working

I just installed the lasted version of Debian onto a fresh Acer Aspire 3620 series laptop. Whenever I try to start X-Windows, I loose the display. Any ideas? I'm new and I'm not sure how to set up the display - I'm thinking that is the problem. Any help will be appreciated...Thanks - GRRRNESDA

when you 'loose the display' do you mean it crashes and takes you back to the console? or does the screen stay black?
if the former, it should give you an error message and the path to the log file where it is saved. can you post the error?

Thanks for your reply, and sorry for the delay...The screen goes black when I start X-windows and I'm thinking it's the screen config, but i'm not sure how to set it...Thanks again

there will be 2 files to check. one will be the log file (check in /var/log, i think its something like /var/log/Xorg.0.log' or something similar). also check the X configuration file, which is probably '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'. if you cant make any sense of these then post them here in quote tags.
