hi all
well, i've just installed FedoraCore 4 on my laptop, a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100.
I have problems with graphical configuration.
i have installed latest Nvidia drivers (as I have a Geforce card). After trying lot and lot of options, I still have to problems:
-unable to switch to a screen resolution other than 800x600 or 640x480
-have a black stripe on the right-hand side of the screen, so my linux screen is quite little
could anyone help me? maybe someone having same laptop?
i can post my xorg.conf if necessary.

hey buddy....I am pretty sure you need to specify a modeline somewhere in the xorg conf. which is absent in your case. Your xorg.0.log tells me that the maximum possible resolution in ur case would be 1024X768@65 Hz
Unfortunately I am in WINDOWS right now...so can't see my own file. and cannot reboot now as my roommates will kill me ( they use my connection on wireless)
the modeline in general looks something like

do some search on google for modeline....I am sure your problem will get solved...
It is a bit tricky to get the GeForce4 420 to work. Use the following hints for your xorg.conf.
Add an entry into the "Module" section in the XF86Config:
Load "glx"
Remove the following entries, if existing:
Load "GLcore"
Load "dri"
In section "Device" replace module "nv" with "nvidia". We should also set the BusID.
Driver "nvidia"
BusID "AGP:01:00:0"
Somehow DDC is not working properly on this laptop. So we have to put the following lines into the section "Device":

Using a TFT together with the commercial Nvidia-drivers will let us use the following lines.

If you like some eyecandy you can add a translucent shadow to the X-pointer. Add the folowing lines at the end of section "Device":

Option "CursorShadowAlpha" "63"
Option "CursorShadowYOffset" "2"
Option "CursorShadowXOffset" "4"
Removing the ugly black stripe in X
Now we're almost there. Firing up X should work now. But there will be an ugly black vertical stripe on the right-hand side of the screen. To get rid of it put the following line into your modules.conf
options NVdriver NVreg_SoftEDIDs=0 NVreg_Mobile=2
Using recent drivers (16-Feb-2003 and up) this issue can also be solved by adding the following line to the Device section in your xorg.conf.
Option "FlatPanelProperties" "Scaling = native"
Remember: using Debian, please do not write stuff directly to /etc/modules.conf. The content is regenerated on upgrades. Put the line into /etc/modutils/NVdriver and call update-modules once.

I am facing the black strip problem with my toshiba 6100 satellite pro on fc4 and usin 8756 version of nvidia driver. Kindly pls help me out with this .....

Make sure you set the monitor (system>admin>display), just choose "generic LCD" and the max res your display can handle, prob 1280x1024. I had the same problem when I tried to set the resolution under "Screen Resolution" and that fixed it.
