I already posted this in the Newbie thread, but it has since been buried with no responses so I figure I will try asking this question again here. Since my initial post I think I have figure out that my wireless hardware is Realtek. It should also be noted that before 64 Studio I did install Ubuntu and the wireless worked, although only sporadically. It would continually lose the connection until eventually it would refuse to work at all and I would have to reset my laptop. Additionally, if no one can help me get this working can someone recommend a PCI Express wireless card that I could buy that would work well with 64 Studio. For the amount of time I've spent trying to get this to work I would rather just spend the money to guarantee a solid connection.

I should preface this by saying I am completely new to Linux. I chose 64 Studio as my distribution (I am using version 3.0 beta 3) because the primary purpose of this computer is for audio production. That and the internet.

I had followed some instructions I had found online using NDISwrapper. I am dual booting 64 Studio with the RC of the 64 bit Windows 7 so it was easy enough to point NDISwrapper to the drivers on the Windows partition. At first it seemed like it was going to work, when I typed "iwlist scan" into the terminal it listed all the wireless networks in my area. Before I could figure out how to connect to my wireless network in the terminal my screen began to show static, not unlike an old TV using rabbit ears with bad reception. To fix the video I chose the correct drivers from the Synaptic Package Manager and restarted my computer.

Upon startup the display was working but the Network Settings manager no longer recognizes my computer having a wireless option. When I type "iwlist scan" it tells me the interface doesn't support scanning. And now when I restart my computer several network errors flash on the screen right before it shuts down. The Wireless Network Drivers screen that goes along with NDISwrapper still shows the correct Windows drivers and says the hardware is present. I'm lost on what to do next. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I had similar problems with 64 studio and finally abandoned it. I could never get the wireless to work at all. You may consider Ubuntu Studio. It has tons of audio apps.
I was setting up a video editing desktop and had problems installing Cinelerra video editor.
which lead me to also abandon Ubuntu Studio. (The wireless did work)

what I eventually did was write down the apps I wanted to run from 64studio and Ubuntu
Studio live disks and just installed them under Ubuntu 9.04. the other important thing I did was to disable all updates except for security updates. I ran into many aggravating problems when installing updates that broke Ubuntu Studio.

I know this is not the answer you want and perhaps someone more knowledgeable can set you
on the right path, but, I know that simply installing the apps I want under Ubuntu 9.04
works and doesnt crash or break.
