Wireless not working on nx7010 w/SUSE 10 install

I am a Linux noob! I wouldn't even know how to begin to detail the problem. Wired network is working fine. Just no wireless. Sorry I'm such a noob. I installed Linux to see why my co-workers (I'm an IT guy) were so impressed. After the install, I'm more than impressed (I just don't know anything). Any help you can give me would be useful.

Thanks!

Im a mandriva linux user Im also new but I managed to get my wireless working by installing the files from "http://www.passys.nl/RPM/index.php?dir=ipw2200_support/"

It should work on SUSE aswell. Download these files from the site:

ieee80211-dkms-1.1.8-1.noarch.rpm
ipw2200-dkms-1.0.10-1.noarch.rpm
ipw2200-firmware-2.3-2.noarch.rpm or ipw2200-firmware-2.4-1.noarch.rpm (if the first one doesnt work)

You dont have to compile anything here, you just double click on the file and it installs automatically. It may ask you to have the orignal SUSE installation discs to install extra files for the wireless to work.

After installing these packages if they are successful then go to the SUSE control center or whatever its called and set up a new connection there.

after install...

ip2200-firmware-2.4-1.rpm installed with no trouble.

When I went to install the ieee80211 -dkms-1.1.8-1.noarch.rpm, I received the following error:

>Installing ieee80211-dkms-1.1.8-1.noarch[Local packages]
There are no installable providers of dkms for ieee80211-dkms-1.1.8-1.noarch[Local packages]

Installing the other file leads to a similar error:

>Installing ipw2200-dkms-1.0.10-1.noarch[Local packages]
There are no installable providers of dkms for ipw2200-dkms-1.0.10-1.noarch[Local packages]

In YaST Control Center under Network Card, it lists my HP Co PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network connection card, but shows 'not configured' under IP Addrs. When I try to edit this connection I receive:

>These packages need to be installed:
ipw-firmware

Continue and I receive:

>The required packages are not installed.
The configuration will be aborted.
Try again?

Hope this helps!

Its good you've managed to install ipw-firmware. but to install the other pacckages you first need to instal thee ieee80211 package which you seem to have a problem with, so i suggest you try downloading the .tar version and try building it through the terminal.

If you don't know how to untar it through the terminal just post again and i will tell you how.

Strange, ipw2200 should work out of the box on suse 10. At the most you'd have to install the firmware which is non-gpl (if you're using the oss version of suse). Try looking in yast for ieee80211 and ipw2200, they should be there. If not, add sources in yast and you'll be all set. The only issue with installing rpms from a different distro is the locations of files might be different(don't think that would be an issue here though). Go to the suse forums on this site, look for the thread called "yast sources" or somethin like that, it should be stickied right at the top. Add the sources to your yast, then you'll have the suse rpms of the ipw stuff (and a whole lot more)

I wish I did, but I don't. I'm a noob. Please show/tell me how.

Thanks!
