Wireless connection Malfunctioning with Fedora12 running on VGN-NS110D sony viao

I'm fairly new to linux, I managed to fix all the problems on my laptop when i installed fedora 10 on my own with no experiance, if someone could tell me what i need to look and how to fix it that would be great. My problem is The wireless connection to my home router is terrible, so bad it only supports text based communication, i cant run firefox (use dillo) cant stream any videos. I never had the problem before when i used fedora 10 (upgraded to 12) But at the same time we replaced our router. A old linksys to a brand new cisco. Now i dont think the broadcasting strength is a issue with the router, maybe its the set up, but my cousins have no problem with their HP laptops running vista. they get full strenght. Do i need to replace a driver? or configure my router? Its odd because it works to a degree and my laptops wireless works at other connections (though still seems slower).

- Oh and my wireless card
atheros communications. AR928X wireless network adapter (PCI-EXPRESS) [168c:002a] (rev 1)

What's the output of "iwlist scan"?

It will be nothing, because command should be:

iwlist <interface> scan

But to find interface OP needs to post output for:
ifconfig -a

With my version of Wireless Tools, "iwlist scan" displays results for all interfaces, organized by interface. Any interface that is not wireless simply displays "Interface does not support scanning".

DLink's are POOR excuse for a wireless router. I am in wireless business for 5 years now, there is no more disturbing thing that customer using DLink.

Visit someone with some other type of WiFi router and scan their signal, since there is a chance that I am wrong in this case.
