"Xubuntu Alternative" can be a good choice (particularly because you can keep it very well upgraded from the Ubuntu repositories), but can it be a little heavy for 80 mb. Feather Linux is another good choice. LittleDebian can be problematic with wifi and pcmcia support, you may need a lot of configuration with it (I'm thinking you will give it "very basic" use).

will red hat run on such a low laptop system if i install it?

With X running, I don't think any version newer than 5.2 (very old) will run. I don't think it will even install. Google for requirements, don't be lazy.

if not what linux shoud I go with and what wifi card would be compatible?

Do not change your hardware, the OS must recognize it, that's one of his functions.

Does the linux os come with a firewall and virus protection or would i have to use Macafee or norton or something(and are these linux compatible as well)?

Mind yourself to prefer Free Software, (you will be installing it soon, isn't?) and read about it. For a firewall just read some about Iptables and IP6tables, you will really advance over regular users with that, then script some rules for blocking undesired incoming (and/or outgoing) connections. You can google some scripts for reference aswell, and you will find a helpful community here. For antivirus you have clamav available, and is upgraded regularly, but here you'll find that an antivirus isn't very much necessary over a GNU/Linux without accepting connections over LAN, WAN, VPN, etc. I never had an antivirus installed on a GNU/Linux laptop or any GNU/Linux network client, just servers.
