Which distributions for Samsung N210?

Hi, I am new to this forum and I am new to Linux! In fact, this is my first post! If I have posted in the wrong location, please tell me!

I am getting a new netbook tomorrow (a Samsung N210) and I am planning to install Linux on it (because most of my friends say Window 7 starter sucks and I want to learn more about programming and coding)!

I have done some small researches, but Linux is such a big topic and I have so many questions on my mind... I will start with these 3 before I am installing!

(1) I have heard that Ubuntu is the best Linux to begin with, but one of my friends told me that Ubuntu did not work on his old Lenovo laptop (He uses Mandriva now). Can anyone, who is using Samsung N210 or similar model, tell me if Ubuntu works on my netbook? If not, then which distribution should I look at?

(2) If I am installing Ubuntu, which Ubuntu should I install? Regular Ubuntu or Ubuntu Netbook Remix?

(3) My Samsung N210 comes with multi-touch pad that runs on Window 7 starter. If I want to re-activate the multi-touch pad, what should I do?

I will stick around for a while and read most posts before installing! I can't wait to get started! Thanks!

So many question in one post.Ok
1.yes. latest version of ubuntu will not work on the older laptops. but you can install ubuntu.4.10 it will work. Some day ago I have installed Ubuntu 4.10. and it is working fine.
2. Install 4.10 to 8.04.
or you can install Ubuntu as virtually without erasing Windows 7.
3. for re-activate the multi-touch pad, type re-activate+multi-touch pad in run windows, help file will open just follow.
I hope you will get the solution.

Thanks for the solution! As a window user all my life, I really don't like window 7 starter... How can I erase window 7 completely and still use the touch pad?

Also, what is the main difference between regular ubuntu and ubuntu netbook remix? Which one do you suggest me to install?

There are some very good articles on google, just search Ubuntu Samsung N210.

This netbook is bang up to date so go for the latest version of ubuntu - currently 9.10, you will need to get extra wifi drivers but again, Prof Google has the answers. We have not yet found a way to adjust the screen brightness with the Fn keys yet but apart from that working well. I went for regular Ubuntu, but have heard good things regarding the Netbook Remix.

Best wishes
