Video problem coming OUT of X

System Info:
Compaq Presario R3000 (R3140US)
NVidia GeForce video
Slackware 9.1 AND 10
console framebuffer:1024x768x16M

When I boot up the machine, Linux starts normally and everything works fine. I go into X and all is well. When I exit X, the console video does nothing but rolls really fast.

The console works because I can type commands and they work. I just can't see what happens because the screen is rolling.

Obviously this is a timing problem but, I have no clue how to fix it. Any ideas?

you do not have to use the priopertary nvidia drivers you can use the nv driver in X config and you have to hit Fn-F4 BEFORE going into X then u can go into X and go back to text mode without any problems, this is the fix for that

Fixed!

The answer was to install 64bit Linux (Slamd64) and then run the NVidia 64bit linux driver. EVERYTHING works perfectly now.

For some reason, the 32bit NVidia drivers acted squirrely on the 64bit hardware.
