Using slackware on an Amilo D1840 laptop


Hello everybody

I'we just installes Slackware on my computer. The innstallation went well, but now i got some problems. I can't get access to my wlan. Do i need some drivers for the network card or what should I do?

You will, and we will be able to help more if we have more information.

What kind of wireless card: make, model, PCMCIA, CardBus, chipset?
Is the card being recognized? What's the output of lscpi?

There is also a LinuxQuestions wireless networking forum, which might be the better place for this.

Ok.. here is some more information:

The pc can you find here her
It hasn't been tested for Linux, but i'm willing to try it.
It's a wireless lan 802.11b network adapter from Broadcom.
The card isn't recognised. When i type iwconfig I get the following message: No wireless extensions.

No I thought this was the best forum, because there maybe is more than just the wlan that doesn't work. I haven't recognized anything else, but there is probably something more that doesn't work.

you have to use the windows driver with ndiswrapper. broadcom sucks cuz they havenīt opened their stuff.
i had the same laptop and got it to work. cannot help anymore though, i sold the thing and bought powerbook.

As mentioned, this is your only open source option for a broadcom card: http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/

Be sure to read the Wiki and the FAQ. They will save you some grief.
