USB on Presario 1245 for network connector
I have a Speedstream 5667 connected to a Linksys WRT54GL via ethernet. Wired and wireless are working great on existing PCs and laptops.
Now I am trying to connect an old Compaq Presario 1245. It has an internal modem (RJ11), a USB port that works fine with a flash drive, and a slot that can hold a PC-Card type-II 32-bit (I don't have a card). I installed ZenWalk and I am now trying to create an internet connection via the USB port directly from the Speedstream 5667. On the 5667 the USB light is not on. 1. Do I need to do something to the USB on the Compaq before it will act as a network connection? 2. How do I set up WICD? |
You need a driver but unfortunately not many USB modem interfaces have any support and AFAIK this one does not. It would be easier IMO to find a USB ethernet adapter or a maybe a PCMCIA card.
