USB Ethernet Adapter Installation Problems
 

Hi,

I'm a newbie to Linux and have just installed Red Hat 7.3 on an old Laptop of mine. The Laptop is a P2 333 with USB and Linux seems to be running fine on it.

My problem is this. I have an ADMTek986 USB to Ethernet adapter. I realised when I decided to install linux on the laptop that I may have problems with this, so I looked around the net for a driver for the Adapter.

The driver I found and I'm trying to install is from Scyld.

I downloaded the RPM and at first when compling the driver there were 'file not found errors'. This was due to not having the kernel-source files installed. I installed the kernel-source rpm and this problem went away.

Now I am getting errors when (after following the instructions from the above url) I try to build a new RPM. After the command:

rpm -bb SPECS/usb-0.2.spec

I get numerous parse errors etc. to do with usb-boot.c etc. I have checked that all the files are there, which they are, but cannot think of anything else to do. Has anyone got any ideas?

PS. If you need to see all the errors then I can post them, but (having done a little bit of coding before myself) they are just parse errors that don't seem to mean much.

PPS. Would recompling the kernel help?
