USB 2 IrDA convertor?

Hi mates,

I have a Compaq LTE5250 lappy with Slackware 10.2. The lappy has got an infrared device? That red lamp-like thing in the back, I'm think it can both recieive and send signals.

I got USB-to-IrDA convertor. (USB cable and a dongle that goes in the USB socket and other end is red).

I put irda-utils on my lappy, the othe machine where i'm planning to send data from is running Knoppix 3.7 (2.6.9) live cd, USB 1.1 compatible (so is the convertor).

ATM I'm searching the net for info, because I haven't got a slightest idea on what to do? The bojective is to send data to USB which would transform it to Infrared-whatever and so that lappy could accept the signal. (I need to transfer some files.)

Any thoughts are very welcome, I'm absolutely dazed, should I create some devicenodes, use some app maybe? pilot-link??

Hope you understand me :S. Thanks in advance!
