Guys i got a 4730z Acer "pre installed" with Linpus linux, i want to get rid of Linpus and install windows XP. Can anyone tell me the procedure to remove / format Linpus first and install XP. I have already created slipstream CD for XP but i guess without removing Linpus i cant proceed forward.
Please help me with this. Thanks in advance.
Download Gparted LiveCD and format the drive. Then make sure you do a "fdisk /MBR" with a MS boot floppy, free DOS download, or whatever and get rid of the linux boot loader (eg. Grub, lilo, etc.)
So the windows CD doesn't complete booting to the point where you can begin installing ?
That sounds like an issue with your Windows CD..
Either that or you haven't explained the issue well enough.

what do you do if you do not have a floppy, can you do it with a cd?
thx
You dont need gparted or anything similar, Just from another computer burn a CD with integrated sata drivers with nlite and drivers downloaded
then from the boot options in your laptop choose DVD,
then put the cd with xp and start install XP then remove the No-DOS partition
then make the partitions of the hard drive
then chose install and wait until finish
then with the os installed install drivers in order 01,02,03 make sure what drivers are needed for video and audio,i dont need the webcam because xp automatically recognizes it.
if you have trouble installing windows xp pro, like i did, try installing windows xp home.
it worked for me, i have a mobii pc and it took me a while to get rid
of linpus untill i tried to install windows xp home.
i'm all happy now!
I have sucessfully installed windows using these steps:
Press F2
Set SATA to IDE
(My installer has windows xp and vista driver CD included)
Press F6 to use the windows driver, follow the steps, next..
Insert Windows OEM DVD to the drive and start installing Windows...
