undocking vaio r505 on debian sid

Greetings,

I am attempting to undock/redock my sony vaio r505 laptop with the firewire docking station. I have unloaded and reloaded all (I think) pertinent modules, but after redocking the cd-rw/dvd will still not read cds. What am I missing here? Is there a service that I need to restart? I have googled for this issue, and have asked on the linux-sony and debian-laptop lists, but have received no response.

I am using Debian Sid with a custom compiled 2.6.4 kernel.

Thanks.
