Unable to configure

I have installed Centos 5.4 in my HP EliteBokk 8530w laptop. I am unable to configure the Wifi.

My wifi network controller is "Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link 5300". I installed the rpm iwl5000-firmware-8.24.2.12-1.elrepo.noarch.rpm.

When I go to the Network Configuration and try to make the wlan0 to active, I get the following errors:
Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.
My lspci command show the following: Please help.

Already installed the firmware rpm

Thanks. I have already installed the rpm
iwl5000-firmware-8.24.2.12-1.elrepo.noarch.rpm

Still I could not activate the Inter 5300 wifi.

How to systematically check what is wrong in my configuration?

Rgds,
Subbu
