Ubuntu Remix Netbook and Toshiba Satelite T110

Hi Guys,

I have installed Ubuntu Remix Netbook 9.10 on my new netbook Toshiba Satelite T110. Unfortunately I have had no luck with my wifi card. The only thing I can do now is turn the wifi card on or off in the Bios of the netbook. Otherwise, even if I run "lspci" for example, only my ethernet card is showing. Now, the fact that the wifi card is seen by the Bios would indicate a driver issue only and not a hardware ( I hope so). If that is the case how can I probe my card to show ? I have also installed wicd to manage my network connection.

Cheers for your help guys, I am really stuck and I am about to reinstall windows on it.

This this output of "lspci -tv". I do not know the name of my wifi card. For some very naive reasons I thought it would probe after installing linux. I guess I was a bit too eager. Nevertheless, I have I think another problem --> I had windows 7 64 bit installed before and I installed ubuntu remix 32 bit as it came only in 32 bit. I think that is why the wifi card is not probing at all. Is there any generic driver i could use ? What I did as well, is to boot from my usb stick ( ubuntu install) and probe for all the peripherals. It did not see my wifi card.

you may find some help here:

http://forum.novatech.co.uk/showthread.php?p=197789

moreover the tgz file with the linux driver contains a readme file.

According to http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/liste_portables_toshiba (it's in french, but I can translate), if you have a look to the TOSHIBA U500-119D, it is mentioned that:
Realtek 8172 is detected with lspci but doesnt work.
then it is written that if you follow the instruction in the readme file, it work but you have to re-do it at each boot.
this can be done by an automatic script at the boot.

if it works, please let me know!

I had been fighting with my wifi on this new netbook for a while now.
I did install the driver re8192se. I actually sent an email to realtek and they were kind enough to send me back the driver.
The output lsmod | grep re8192se_pci told me that the driver was installed and up and running. I was using wicd and that did not help. I loaded the drivers in /etc/modules.
I realized that everything was working fine and no issue whatsoever but my wifi card never actually scanned for wifi networks.
In last resort, I went back to gnome network manager and all worked very well.
wicd was actually causing the issue. Most of all, everytime I reboot the wifi is up and running without the help of the script mentionned here --> http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/liste_portables_toshiba

Thank you Guys for your response
