Ubuntu 11.10 skype sound and cam issues - pulseaudio
Hey guys,
I'm new to linux and recently upgraded to ubuntu 11.10 with the help of my genius friend. The system is easier for me to use and i prefer it over windows. So i have skype on beta.2.2 and my cam and sound doesn't work. I have a crystal eye webcam and the sound issue on skype refers to pulseaudio. Does anyone know how i can fix this problem?

Hi, Looks like you've been waiting awhile for a response. pulseaudio or ALSA are your choices. Look for your configuration utility on the sound card and see whether changing that setting (it's probably a checkbox) helps. If not, my system has a file at /etc/sound/profiles/README that might help you. Is your cam not giving video, or just sound? If it's a video problem, you might want to downgrade to a stable version of skype instead of the beta. beta versions are for people who are testing software that might not be working correctly on release.
Cheers!

Does your sound work otherwise (eg on youtube)? If yes, try to play around with skype sound configuration (in my case, skype wanted to play sound with usb webcam with no speakers).
Does your cam work outside of skype? Try a simple webcam application, such as cheese. Can you determine the type of your webcam (what does the command 'lsusb' tell us)?
