Hi,
On my Fujitsu-Siemens AMILO A7600 laptop when Fedora Core 2 is initally booting from install cd it does not autodetect the touchpad and says I have to use text mode as I have no mouse configured.
So I install with text mode and when the system installs it still cannot see the touchpad.
I put a usb mouse in and it autodetected it a boot time (obviously not ideal to use an external mouse with a laptop). I used this setup to configure the system (internet access via ethernet and ran up2date to see if that helped) also patched the bios to the latest 1.10 release - did not make any difference.
Strangely I tried "damn small linux (DSL) 0.7" which is based on kernel 2.4 and this booted and picked up the touchpad - confirming that it was sitting on /dev/psaux. I tried to copy the config from XFree86 on DSL and use a modified version on XORG based FC2 however it still did not pick up the touchpad (I even unconfigured the external USB2 mouse - still made no difference).
I even tried downloading and installing the synaptics driver and followed the instructions ... i.e. make, make install, vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf making necessary changes. - X would not start complaining about no synaptic device found probing
ing 33 times !!
Tried to install FC1 as I had enough - on the screen that test the cd (or rather as it is loading linux it turns the keyboard off !!!!!!
!!!!!!! ) so I can't skip it and go to the install !!!!
- anyway.
If anyone knows how to install touchpad on this blasted machine with FC2 I would really appreciate an answer as ... to quote a friend
"it's been emotional"
Cheers,
John
