Touch pad side scrolling

Hey there,

I just recently updated to the newest Ubuntu and I'm not able to use the side scrolling feature on my touch pad...it just acts likes a mouse surface. I have a Sony Vaio FW-139E. I was able to do this before the update, and I was browsing around the forums and discovered it may be a kernel issue...?

Is this a known issue? and...is there a fix?

Thanks!

Just to verify: you have checked the "horizontal scrolling" check box under

System->Preferences->Mouse->touchpad

??

I do not see this option under Mouse.

Under mouse there should be a "tab" named touchpad, there you should find that option. Otherwise something else is wrong.

The doesn't exist....so...something isn't installed properly?

Yeah, or maybe it is not recognizing that it is a laptop or something. But vertical scroll worked so... I'm sure there is also a config file that you can edit somewhere; I remember doing that in the old days. Unfortunately I don't remember much about it now.

What happens if you boot from a live cd, do you have that option then? You could also try to make a small partition, and install it there. Then you know whether a complete reinstallation will help.
