Hi forum,

this Toshiba Tecra 8000 with a Yamaha OPL3 chip has Antix 13.2 installed with Kernel 3.7.10-antix.5-486-smp i686 (32 bit). There's no sound at all.

$ inxi -F
doesn't mention any sound devices

$ alsactl init
alsactl: init:1743: No soundcards found...

$ alsamixer
Fehler beim Öffen des Mixer-Gerätes: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden

I'd like to load the kernel driver module snd-opl3sa2
$ modinfo snd-opl3sa2
ERROR: Module snd-opl3sa2 not found.

http://www.alsa-project.org/main/ind...odule-opl3-sa2 should teach how to compile the module, but the call to
$ ./configure
fails because the file isn't in the downloaded data.

What now?
Does anyone know how to compile that module?

The sound card is not detected. That's a very old machine; Wikipedia tells me it is at least 13 years old. Are you certain that the sound card works?

You could try booting to a Live CD of something else and testing the sound card.

Yes, I know it's working. Just have to swap harddrives to the one with Windows 98 SE installed on it and it works.

Knowing some can work is a valuable bit of information for troubleshooting.

I have no experience whatsoever with those devices. I hope that rokytnji's links prove helpful.
