toshiba satellite battry problem

I have a toshiba satellire 2800. My problem has been that it starts up when pluged in but if you try starting it off the battry 2 green lights will come on like it is starting up but then it just shuts off. Like if you had a dead battry. When I go to charge it the battry light goes orange but after about 5 mins it will stop charging and there wont be a battry light. If the computer is on and i unplug the power cord the orange battry light will start flashing and beeping and after about 5 mins the computer will shut off. Does anyone know what i chould do to fix this problem. If it is the battry that is dead does anyone know where i can get one cheap i am in collge right now and am very poor. Thank You much.

Sounds like your battery (or the hardware that charges it) is dead. You can have your battery tested at pretty much any pc shop these days. As for buying a cheap one, there's always Ebay or Toshiba themselves.

Thanks man another thing i just noticed though is that i can unplug the battry and plug it back in and it will charge for like 5 mins and then stop and i can keep doing that and my battry keeps charging like that i was at 2% before and now i am up to 10% so what do you think of that? and also i read that if it is 50 degress or colder the battry wont charge and my room is about that and was woundering if that might play a role in it?Thanks again and to you have a link for toshiba?
