Toshiba L675D with ubuntu 10.4 wireless problem

I've installed Ubuntu on my new laptop. Everything seems to work, including my wireless card, except that there are about 6 wireless networks I can see from any other computer, including my own network. The new laptop only see's one network, and it's not mine. Any ideas how to force it to re-scan? using the base Ubuntu wireless utility. Is there another utility that might be better?

In your web browser have you enabled proxy by mistake? It's not logic to download a file and not load a web page!

I haven't checked, but I'm pretty sure that's not the case since I can browse the internet as soon as I plug in to the network cable. It's only wireless that doesn't work.

After finding this thread I turned off WPA authentication, and whalla! ///i can connect and am writing this now via wirless connection. unfortunately I now have an unsecured network. I'm going to experiment with other authentication protocols.
