Is your sound on with another operating system? Ubuntu /linux is nice to use when it works which is almost always but sometimes it is hard to find a solution. Most laptops have switch or keys that enable or set the audio. have you found those?
I would do a reinstall as it is so fast and also try other operating systems like Kubuntu and puppy-linux as well as re installing 9.10.
Did you have Ubuntu on before installing 9.10. The more history you can give the better we can help. Also if you do find the solution make sure you post it so everyone knows what happened.
Maybe the solution is as simple as it was with me:
Click on the loudspeaker icon (top right), then click "volume control", and see if the volume controls are all up, an if all the loudspeakers are not muted (a cross through the icons).
(Put i-Mic Boost and e-Mic Boost down; you don't need them).
Regards,
Rene.
Its aggravating when an OP doesn't say if the problem is resolved. At least have the courtesy to tell the people that try to help you if your issue has been resolved, otherwise your just wasting our time.
Toshibas great when they work but a little quirky with Ubuntu
I have an a205. My problem is a little different but maybe it can help.
On 9.04 all was well except that my speaker volume was a little low. I upgraded to 9.10 directly "no clean load". Every thing was ok and the speaker volume was greatly improved. I rarely reboot or shut down. But after a recent reboot my speakers no longer worked. With very helpful suggestions, on this site and using the "GNOME ALSA Mixer" found that the [SPEAKER] was muted. Changed that and sound was back. Further, the first time I rebooted, "SPEAKERS WERE SILENT AGAIN". Back to the "Mixer" and OK again. Don't know yet why the boot reset is taking place but knowing how to fix it has the pressure off.
Sorry for the late reply. I dont have sound att all. I can see the hardware in the terminal but when i try to run alsa mixer it states no elems. When i go to the mixer or speaker icon on the desktop it opens fine but there is no playback devices listed. Lastly I've tryd updating and upgrading all my sound library's and the mixer and even tried to find hardware drivers still no sound? Im really stumped...
I apologize, Yes the sound is working on the windows install. Im dual booting Vista/Ubuntu.. Sorry again about the late responses work is killing my with 75 hours a week
