after using my 220 for a few months now, I can tell you that with ubuntu 11.10 (kernel 3.0.0-14 amd64) everythink works, except suspend to disk, which is unstable.
In particular, external monitors over RGB works, this has been been a problem for older distros. I haven't tried HDMI, usb3, and SD cardreader though.
well, I find the exact same satisfaction with debian, running linux 2.6.39. I've issues with susspend to disk aswell. I haven't tested usb3 either with a usb3 device, but it's backward compatibility with usb2 works fine, except with the external disc drive "when installing a distro". my sdcard reader doesn't work, but this is a known issue with the i7 model which I have.
6 hours on 9cell battery. Might i mention this too; there is apparently power consumption issues with the linux kernel, and it has apparently become even worse with 3.1.
whoa; thanks for the tip. What does that do, that makes your computer able to extends your battery life? Where did you get that information? and Is that tested battery life, or are you going by what the little icon says?
rc6 enables some kind of graphic card powersaving mode, and the other lowers the screen refresh rate.
So long I am telling what the icon reports. But it calculates these numbers based on the current consumption, right? Also, now the processor temp is 47C and the fan does 1900RPM.
Works well. I did not notice any substantial iprovement, but no issues either. I can use the computer perhaps 5-6 hrs now, the max battery life estimate I have seen was >8hrs when idling with full battery.

Hibernate
I installed the Liquorix kernel a few days ago and Hibernate is not an issue any longer on my x220i. I had doubts first because when the machine wakes up, the kernel selection screen is shown just as it is on a normal startup, but it works flawlessly. Here is a link to a Howto for LMDe http://r3dux.org/2011/09/how-to-inst...ernel-in-lmde/.
Now all I am still missing is setting battery thresholds. Has anyone been able to get these working?
I also wanted to add that i heard that redhat has created a patch for the kernel to repair the ongoing kernel battery life regression in one of the upcoming kernels, i don't follow the linux kernel strictly and it may already be released, i hope it's a good fix.
(Some came default with Opensuse, others already listed here, and others in the link i've provided.)
I am running the i7 model with 9cell battery. I have seen battery estimates reach 18 hours. I do not trust battery estimates 100%. Realisticly I get about 6 hours, currently running Linux 3.1.9-1.4. I would like to hear about other peoples battery life on there x220, that's based on experience rather than from the estimate on there desktop environment. I would also be interested if people are getting the same in Windows on the x220, because i removed it from my system without testing, and now curiosity is getting the better of me.
