Unhappy Tecra 8200 Cyberbladexp cannot get 1400x1050

Hi all,
Im using a Toshiba Tecra 8200 which has a cyberbladexp graphics chipset (16mb of vram) trouble is i cannot get the maximum resolution of 1400x1050, I've tried editing my xorg.conf and it either dosnt boot up X or it reverts back 1024x768, I've tried rerunning sax2 and reprobing my graphics card but it detects it as a trident 9910 with a vesa 800x600 monitor, ive manually changed these with yast/sax and it still reverts back to 1024x768.

anyone else had any experience/problems with this chipset or laptop model?

Running suse 9.3 pro, with all updates.

This is the first time i've really used a linux distro and im absolutley loving it, especially when before this tecra p3 850Mhz i had a p2 233Mhz toshiba 4000cds (think that was the model) with 16mb of ram and suse 9.2 ran like a dream on it, ran Mambo and Moodle on it for demonstration purposes with no hitch!
does anyone know if there any other 3d accelerated compatible drivers that i might use?

Thanks for all your comments/help

PS. its such a pity that trident micro systems decided against releasing any hardware information about the cyberbladexp as the best "we" can get is 2-d acceleration - which means no good old "tux racer"

http://www.justobjects.nl/just/linux...-8200-all.html

Here's a similar situation I found on google, but with more links and some tweaking regarding video to 1400 mode.

hope that helps

This resolution is working with Linux but only like virtual resolution!
My XF86Config below. (Debian)

# XF86Config-4 (XFree86 X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the XF86Config-4 manual page.
# (Type "man XF86Config-4" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xfree86 package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xfree86
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following commands as root:
#
# cp /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.custom
# md5sum /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 >/var/lib/xfree86/XF86Config-4.md5sum
# dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86
