T41 Mobility Radeon 7500 3d Support
 

I Installed Suse 9.0 on my Thinkpad T41, Everything works great except when I try to run a program like TuxRacer. It gives me a warning dialogue and says no 3d device has been configured, but all the opengl screen savers work fine. When I had Mandrake Community 10 on the T41 I didnt have this problem and 3d support worked fine. I clicked to enable support as well during install.
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't use Suse, but I will try to help you anyway....

the 3D on radeon mobility is quite recent, it is not even on XFree 4.4...

if you had it with mdk10, it is probably because they use their own XFree

I use the DRI trunk of XFree, in which they develep new drivers, and since 2 or 3 month I have 3D acceleration with my radeon M6...

in fact if you want 3D, you have to check out the sources from dri cvs, compile them and overwrite your xfree provided with suse....

another simpler solution, is to wait for XFree 4.5 (or 4.4.1 if it exists one day :) )

I have a mobility radeon 7500 on my laptop and use it for 3D, play Quake 3 and UT (ut sometimes crash but due to XServer, not using 4.4 yet).

TV-Out support is not good but it works, with some tweaks, using a tool called ati-tvout, don't remember the name now. It comes with SuSE and Mandrake.

My ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 (64 MB) worked ok with the following Distros:
Mandrake 9.1
Mandrake 9.2
Mandrake 10.0 Community Edition
Mandrake 10.0 Official Edition
SuSE 9.0

Only had to append to /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file (not sure about the name, but is is the config file in this dir for XFree86) something in the monitor configuration: Create a new Sub Section and put Depth "8" Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" and close the Sub Section , do it for all the Depths.
