Unhappy System becomes unstable after "modprobe yenta_socket"

I have just completely wipes Windows XP of my Toshiba Satellite 1110 and installed Mandrake 10.0. I tested the system with MandrakeMove and it works perfectly. The install script from the Mandrake 10.0 CD works perfectly as well.

The built in ethernet does not work in this laptop so I have to use a Xircom PCMCIA Ethernet/Modem. But of course after the install PCMCIA doesn't work. I'm a complete noob to this and started to learn Linux as I was solving it.

After some time I found this solution:

Quote:
As root enter the following:

modprobe yenta_socket
cardmgr
This gets my PCMCIA card working and I can connect to the internet but my USB mouse stops working. Not only this but the Mandrake control center won't load and X cannot shutdown.

Running: Linux 2.6.3-7mdk

I think I may need to get new drivers but since Toshiba don't make Linux drivers and I can't find any on the Mandrake website (Where do I look?) I'm a little stuck.

I've spent a good... Ummm... 6-7 hours on this and any help would be nice.

Try mandrake 10.1 before trying to fix 10.0 and see if the problem has been solved. If it hasnt. Pick a new distro, someone's bound to have it right.
