Hi,
I have installed Suse 10.0 on SONY VAIO VGN-FJ1S Laptop using 1 DVD evaluation version. All the installation went well. But during the hardware configuration, it's hanging at Sound card configuration. I waited about one hour and then restarted. Then i am able to log in to Linux, but immeditaely the system is shutting down on it's own saying "System is shutting down by root". This message is coming even if i am logging in as root.
Can any one suggest me how should i go about it?? Eagerly waiting to hear from some of you.
Yes, this works just fine but we wont be able to throttle the cpu... Hence byby battery... I tried to shutdown the thermal monitoring but then the laptop freezes after a couple of seconds in KDE. I tried to disable the powersaved daemon, the laptop doesnt reboot but it freezes as in the first case. I suspect there is something wrong with the kernel as I used kubuntu and everything works fine. But I like the suse desktop so I mus find a way to make this work

same thing here. exact same problem. not sure as to what is going on. tried to skip hardware configuration altogether some kind of brodcast error message. would love if somebody else has figured it out.
If you install with ACPI off, then there is no power management. Why do that when ubuntu-kubuntu breezy install just fine? Unfortunatelly I like SUSE and that problem is driving me towards another "competitor".
