Angry suse 9.3 intel pro/wlan 2200bg

Could some one please help.

I have recentley upgraded from win xp to suse 9.3. I have a acer travelmate 290 with a intergated intel pro/wlan 2200bg wireless nic.

In xp it works with no problems, but when using suse 9.3 it says its working but not getting any ip address or seeing any router. Plus the wireless light is off.

The only way I can get it to work is put in my xp hard drive then shut it down. Then put in my suse hard drive. It will work fine again till i shut down suse then the problem starts again.

The driver suse is using iwp2200.

In kwifimanager it has a pcmcia card symbol with disable radio. It cant re-enable the radio.

If anyone could help that would be great.

Thanks

Can you confirm that the card is working through Yast (network devices)? If not, you'll have to use ndiswrapper. However, it sounds like the card works some of the time.

I had a similar problem with the wifi card acquiring an IP address. Do you have an ethernet card activated? If yes, set it to activate ONLY when plugged in (not at boot). I found that once eth0 is activated, Suse looks for it's IP address from eth0 first instead of the wireless card.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply.

After hours of surfing the web I have found lots of people have the same problem. The problem is to do with the rf switch either hardware or software.

I have tryed all sort of commands and programs that people say work. But as yet it still not working.

Any ideas anybody???

Hi lonely soul,

I have an acer extensa 2902LMi which is the same as the Travelmate 290.

The WLAN switch needs software to work.

Look for the acerhk project on sourceforge, and install it.

Then you have to load the installed module with the option
Code:
force_series=290
Then create a start script with the command
Code:
echo 1 > /proc/driver/acerhk/wirelessled
to activate the WLAN switch at boot time.

Then sit on the couch, switch WLAN on and have fun

I have Suse 10, so in 9.3 there may be some differences.
