Suse 9.1 and Inspiron 3800 (Video Setup problems)

During the install it detected my Rage Mobility 2x chipset. But when booting now the screen goes blank with no errors or anything.

I'm a total :newbie: So if you'd like any information from any config files or such please help me out and tell me how to get the information as well.

Thanks in advance for any help or idea's.

I have a 3700 with the same problem. Rage Mobility 2x AGP ... I have not devised a solution yet and Dell is of no assistance. I have tried VESA and LCD, neither yeilds a GUI. I think the display was made by IBM and I have an e-mail in to them. If I hear back I'll let you know.

Well it wasn't pretty but searched around some and a few said they could get the video to work by picking Vesa for the driver as well as the monitor.

So switched the card to VESA, and monitor to VESA: 1024x768@60hz

And so far it's working. :)

Semesm, glad to know I could help you with your goal of increasing your post count.

In case you are wondering where this menu.lst is it is located in /boot/grub

and use vi to edit.

This solution works
