SuSe 10 on Acer Aspire 1694WLMi

Hello!
I have the Acer Aspire 1694WLMi. I have installed SuSe Linux 10 but i canīt start the graphical interface (so that i can see windows and the other things). Whenn i start Linux after installation i have to press STRG+ALT+F1 to get the shell on my sceen. And then when i type in "startx" it didnīt work. The Notebook has a Radeon X700 with 256 MB...
I hope there are some other people with this Notebook who can help me.

/edit: can anybody say me how i get into the menu "Graphic and Monitor" when i start yast from the shell? Becaus when i type in yast then there is a blue screen with menues, then i go to hardware and there to "Graphic and Monitor" or something like that but when i press Enter or Space i donīt get into this menu...whats the problem?

try running sax2 in terminal, that should give a GUI in which you can configure your monitor and graphics, which then should fix your startx problem. just guessing though.
before running sax2, make sure you know the horizontal and vertical refresh rate and the physical dimensions of your screen.

edit: not rehresh, refresh...

Simply running 'X' from a console should give you an error output, which will shed some light on the problem.

I have the same problem. I installed on dell Optiplex GX620 with 20 inch screen. I got only black screen after reboot. I tried startx, int 3 and sax2 to fix monotor for GUI proper desplay but I got only black screen again. Nothing help. Sax2 and startx doesn't work. Need help if u figure out the problem.

hey guys!!

I have exactly the same problem. however I can use kde normally with startx. At the bootloader choose failsafe and login with your username and password then type (which starts a NEW Xorg session)

startx -- :1

the problem is with Xorg, possibley with Xauthority... but I haven't found out what yet.. I'll keep ya posted!

Here we go... I worked it out.
Run the SUSE installation but choose Install without ACPI and that will fix it!
