Stuck in 'Power Saving Mode' on Asus U50vg running Fedora Core 11

I just purchased an Asus U50vg and have successfully installed the x86_64 version of Fedora Core 11 and have gotten everything to work except for one thing. The laptop seems to be stuck in "Power Saving Mode" meaning the back light for the keyboard won't turn on and the screen won't display at its maximum brightness. Anyone have any ideas on what to try?

What Window manager do you use, for instance in KDE you can use kpowersave to play with those settings, maybe you should look for an app like that as a start.

I tried using the power management settings in GNOME and KDE with no luck.
