StandAlone System

I wish to have some prerequisite to start working on StandAlone system. As this is a part of company's project so I can't disclose anything in public.

Simply I want some clue to start with ?

I am using Debian v2.6.8, target board(triton) display connected through NFS(Linux m/c.), using compiled code through crosstool done on win32 m/c.
