Sound with Fedora on an HP Pavillion laptop

I recently bought an HP Pavillion dv4230us laptop and installed Fedora 4 on it (to dual-boot along with Windows XP). It installed and works fine on the laptop, except that the sound doesn't work. The Windows device manager tells me the laptop has a SoundMAX sound card.. I think Fedora's sound detection tool detected something else. Is there a way to tell/force Fedora what sound card to use, or at least another driver available?

First did you here a sound when fc4 was being installed?
If you did then run ' alsamixer ' and check the volume levels for master and pcm. If down to 0 raise to desired level. If a MM is above the bar then hit M key to unmute it. Hit esc to exit. Test sound if all is okay then run the command as root ' alsactl store '.

Now the sound moudule is defined under /etc/modules.conf.

Hope this helps

I didn't hear a sound during the installation. I don't have the laptop on at the moment, but I think it was detecting something different than the soundmax sound device that's in the laptop.
