Sound Problem: Dell XPS M1210
Hey I've been reading other topics that have the "no sound" problem as well and i couldn't find anything that could solve my problem.
I've been having this problem just recently, like 3, 4 days ago. My sound device is SigmaTel Audio. Sometimes it will work fine, and then it will stop working suddenly. I would check my sounds and volume devices, and there would be "no devices" under volume. Then i would restart and check the sound and volume devices again and i would see "sigmatell audio". but then it would just stop working again.. can any1 help me? |
What version of alsa (sound driver) are you running (cat /proc/asound/version)? Also, what sound codec is it (cat /proc/asound/card0/codec*)?
|
Can you tell me how to find that out?
|
Open a console window and type the following commands:
cat /proc/asound/version cat /proc/asound/cards |
the laptop says it doesnt recognize "cat"
|
What version of Linux are you running? All versions of Linux support "cat".

Sound Problem: Dell XPS M1210
Well, I hope someone is still reading this.
Anyway, I couldn't get any sound on my M1210 (F10) and been working in it for few weeks now until I stumble upon this. Been through the obvious steps like unmuting but still no sound. Being a total noob I am and to follow through whats already been said here, these are my outputs: cat /proc/asound/version Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.19. Compiled on Mar 30 2009 for kernel 2.6.27.19-170.2.35.fc10.i686 (SMP). cat /proc/asound/cards 0 [U0x46d0x8c6 ]: USB-Audio - USB Device 0x46d:0x8c6 USB Device 0x46d:0x8c6 at usb-0000:00:1d.7-5, high speed 1 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDA Intel at 0xdfebc000 irq 21 What should I do next and recommendation on what I should be doing next? Thank you. |
