sound on TP600 / ALSA / modules....

I have 3 linux books, did several google searches, etc and I go around
in circles with no luck.

Anyone get their sound to work on a TP600e / RH8?
If so, which URL gives the CLEAREST instructions. I'm mostly concerned on which directory must I be in, how do I edit the etc/conf, etc.

I have compiled ALSA -conf, make install, etc sucessfully
but I get other peoples etc/conf's from several websites. I copy them,
open my text editor, find the etc/conf, paste the info in there, save (is that all there is to editing etc/conf?)

But the next step doesn't work. Something like mod soundcard or something. I know the error is 'module not found' maybe not in those words. I'm using W98 right now, I have this laptop dual booted, excuse the lack of exact wording.

thanks

We need to know the what your sound card is. So, boot up into windows, and use the right mouse button to click on 'My Computer', from the menu select 'Properties', and 'System Properties' will open up. Now click on the 'Device Manager' tab, and go to 'Sound, Video, and Game Controllers', and your sound card will be listed in that section.

It's a CS4610, but every website I've read trying to find out how to do this says DON'T use that driver, but use CS4236. I think what I need to do is build the module for this soundcard, but I am failing. I follow others directions, but it keeps coming up 'module not present'.

Did you run 'sndconfig'?
