Sound Card problems on Suse 10.0

Hi friends,
I just wanted to ask you all a question regarding Suse 10.0.

Well, my girlfriend installed Suse 10.0 on her laptop (Compaq V3155 notebook, AMD turion), and for some reason, the OS fails to recognize her Nvidia MCP 51 sound card. When we tried Yast, we found that on probing for the hardware, the system did recognize the sound card as the correct model, but it could not be configured. Also, there was no MCP 51 in the list of the sound cards when we tried to configure it manually.

Can anyone kindly clarify how to go about this problem?

You will need to install a newer version of sound drivers. I'm assuming the driver version is 1.0.11 or 1.0.12. I'd suggest getting the latest alsa 1.0.14rc4 pre-release from alsa-project.org. After installing that, I may need more information to add support for her system. Please download and run http://bulletproof.servebeer.com/als...s/alsa-info.sh and post the resulting url (it will upload a text file for alsa debugging).

Thanks GrueMaster, what you've mentioned definitely sounds very promising. I've let her know and she's going to try it as soon as she gets her internet connection. Or if possible, she'll manage otherwise.

I'll definitely keep you updated.
