Sound Card Installation Problem

Good day. I'm sure you've guessed I new to Linux. I have installed Suse 9.1 on my Compaq Presario 3000 laptop. I can not install the sound card for it. Every time I use YaST it gives me the following error

error during installation of

Sound Controller

the kernel module snd-intel8x0 for sound support could no be loaded. This could be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.

I want to use Linux on my laptop, but I really need sound. Any suggestions would help. Thank you for your time.

try adding "snd-intel8x0m" (without quotes) to the /etc/hotplug/blacklist directory (if you have one). you'll have to be root to edit the file. Then reboot the computer.

This may or may not work, but it's worth a try.

Thank you for the idea. I found a way for the system to detect my sound card & load the proper driver. Unfortunately my laptop chashed hard shortly after.

Could you post the way you found?

I am having a similar problem installing SuSe on a Compaq V2306AP.

It works fine, but gives me errors when trying to recognize the sound card.

Could you tell us what solution you used to fix your problem?

THanks!
