Sony VAIO touchpad malfunction

The mouse works normally and after some random time of using the system, if starts to fail, meaning click buttons not working.

If I do:

rmmod psmouse
modprobe psmouse

it goes back to normal operation.

Using the search function I found this (very similar) post but unfortunately without a solution.

I have a Vaio too. If yours is still under warranty you could give Sony a call:
1-877-865-7669. Here's their website for support:

If not still under warranty you could have a computer shop (of course for a fee) to check it-
Or have Sony repair or replace it. They replaced mine but it was still under warranty.
It wasn't the mouse pad in my case; it was the corrupted recovery partition-

I'm not the expert on hardware but you could run Memtest86 to rule out hardware failure-

Also which make and model of the Vaio do you have? The E series or enhanced?
And how old is your Vaio?

In some cases if people have performance problems with their computers hardware a newer versions of the kernel installed solves these problems. I'm not sure but maybe rolling back to an older version may help too-
Like I said I'm not the expert but giving you information that I have learned can help.

I see in your output you are running 3.2.29; version of the kernel-
Did you recently install the newer version of the kernel; 3.6.6?
Knowing what distro you have might help too-
What distribution are you running?

I have had the kernel disable an interrupt on suspend or while running. As I never used dsp1 in one box(hdmi soundcard), it regularly was disabled at some point. Is there suspends/hibernates involved, or is this powered off every time?

I never had to look beyond getting the synaptics driver in there before the evdev. I see 3.2.29; Slackware?

Yes I'm using Slackware 64 bits.

Ztcoracat: The model is VGN-CS290 and it is not more in warranty, its a pretty old machine.

business_kid: The NB is powered all the time, not even screen saver involved.

I'm not sure if the mouse pad can be ordered/replaced but I'd give it a go if it were me.
If your not really up for replacing the pad yourself you could have a computer tech replace it for you; that is if you want to at this point. (Be careful with your hands not to stir up an electro-static charge) Not sure if (eventho it's not under warranty anymore)Sony would repair/replace the mouse pad or not....I'd call them and ask.

The only other idea I can think of; Goossen is purchase a wireless mouse that comes with a dongle that plugs into the side of your Vaio and try that. As soon as I purchased my Vaio that's the first thing I did-
